Tornado Watch

Via the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office:

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a Tornado Watch for portions of North Georgia that include Paulding County until 1AM.

Instructions:

A Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of severe storms capable of producing tornadoes. Stay weather aware and monitor local media and/or NOAA Weather Radio for later statements and warnings if required.

THE SLOW MOVING COLD FRONT WILL MOVE INTO FAR NORTHWEST GEORGIA
WEDNESDAY MORNING AND EXIT THE AREA BY THURSDAY MORNING. THE
POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER WILL CONTINUE WEDNESDAY FOR CENTRAL
AND PORTIONS OF NORTH GEORGIA. DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL...AND
TORNADOES WILL BE POSSIBLE. AT THIS TIME...RAINFALL TOTALS OF 3 TO
5 INCHES CAN BE EXPECTED OVER NORTH GEORGIA AND ABOUT 1 TO 3
INCHES OVER CENTRAL GEORGIA THROUGH THURSDAY. THIS COULD LEAD TO
ISOLATED FLASH FLOODING OVER MAINLY NORTH GEORGIA...AND WIDESPREAD
MINOR TO POSSIBLY MODERATE AREAL AND RIVER FLOODING ACROSS THE

Areal Flood Watch

…Flood Watch remains in effect from midnight EDT tonight through late Wednesday night…

The Flood Watch continues for

* north and central Georgia.

* From midnight EDT tonight through late Wednesday night

* widespread rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches are expected across north Georgia and 1 to 3 inches are expected for central Georgia.

* Isolated flash flooding will be possible…mainly over north Georgia…if the heavy rain repeatedly moves over the same area. Also…storm drains and ditches may become quickly clogged with debris and cause extensive street flooding and Road ponding. Minor to potentially moderate flooding of some of the larger creeks and rivers is likely across the entire area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Flood Warning

The Flood Warning continues for
the Sweetwater creek near Powder Springs.
* Until further notice.
* At 3 am Tuesday the stage was 13.4 feet… and rising.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 13.0 feet.
* At 13.0 feet… flood stage is reached. Minor flooding will occur in
The Woodlands… fields and pastures of the natural flood plain
upstream and downstream from the gage at Brownsville Road.
* This crest compares to a previous crest of 15.4 feet on Nov 11 2009.

Hazardous Weather Outlook

Via the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office:

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for North and Central Georgia that calls for the potential of severe weather to develop across the area on Friday. 

In advance of an approaching cold front some storms could develop tonight after midnight producing gusty winds. 

As the day progresses Friday some of the storms are expected to become severe. 

Currently the time frame for storms to move into our county will be around 10AM. 

Hazards will include damaging winds, small hail and isolated tornadoes. 

The most critical time for potential tornado development will be between 2PM and 8PM. 

Storms are expected to weaken and exit the Paulding County area after 8PM. 

Persons across North and Central Georgia are urged to monitor this still developing inclement weather situation and remain weather aware throughout the day Friday.
