Hi Folks, we’ve just upgraded to the latest versions of Wordpress and MySQL. We’ve also added an enhanced mobile theme that automatically detects your phone’s OS and loads the appropriate template. This theme is designed for Android, iPhone and BlackBerry touchscreen phones specifically, and allows easy navigation and commenting on posts. There is also a very basic mobile theme for standard cellphones.

Feel free to give these new features a test drive; we’d love to read your feedback in comments to this post! As always, you can contact the site admin at morgan@pauldingweather.com with any suggestions or questions about the site.

Most of you are probably already aware that you can access this site via the URL www.pauldingweather.com, but before I had that name registered I used www.kf4ytr.com. The kf4ytr address was at one time my personal website (anyone who knows about amateur radio knows why), and when I decided to start this project I hadn’t yet decided on a permanent address. Now that I have done so, I’d like to officially announce our transition to the new address. This is for two reasons: One, so I can reclaim kf4ytr.com for personal use, and of course also because that name has nothing to do with weather.

So, for those of you who have been with us from the start, please update your bookmarks/favorite links to point to www.pauldingweather.com. In about a week or so kf4ytr.com will no longer link to this site, and will instead go to whatever purpose I find for it.

Thanks everyone, and have a Merry Christmas!

We’ve decided to focus on the entire county instead of one small corner, so some changes are in order. First, we’ve changed the name of the site to “Paulding County Weather”. Also, you will now see a map centered on the county.

We’re also working on making the site more accessible and useful, with a focus on preparedness and safety for all county residents. To that end, we are testing several ways to get information to you wherever you are. The site has been optimized for mobile device browsers, so you can more easily navigate via your phone or other portable device. There is now a SMS message service, which is entirely opt-in. Simply provide your mobile phone’s number and service provider in the form on the right, and you will receive updates via text message when severe weather approaches. As stated this is an opt-in service meaning you will only be contacted if you specifically sign up for it. Also, we will ONLY ever use your number for severe weather updates. Also remember that you may be charged by your phone service provider for any text messages you receive; we have no control over that.

Please bear in mind these are all works-in-progress so there are going to be bumps along the way. We ask for your patience as we strive to be the most up to the minute and complete source for disaster preparedness in Paulding County. Please feel free to leave feedback in the comments or you can contact us via email at admin@kf4ytr.com.

Thank you!
